SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED SEMINAR IN THE FIELD OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH

The Public Scientific Institution Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska successfully implemented a professional training/seminar for persons performing occupational safety and health tasks. The seminar was held on 24 April 2026 at the premises of Pan-European University Apeiron in Banja Luka.

The seminar was organised in accordance with Article 6 of the Rulebook on the Procedure for Education, Training and Qualification in the Field of Occupational Safety and Health (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Srpska”, No. 52/22), with the aim of continuously improving the knowledge, skills and professional competencies of persons performing expert tasks in the field of occupational safety and health.

The seminar attracted great interest, as confirmed by the participation of more than 100 attendees from various institutions, organisations and business entities. Such a significant response demonstrates the need for continuous professional development in the field of occupational safety and health, particularly in relation to safe work with chemicals, medical waste and other hazardous substances.

The seminar programme focused on topics of direct practical importance, including safe handling of medical waste, chemicals in the workplace, implementation of occupational safety and fire protection measures, and workplace risk assessment related to working with chemicals.

Expert lectures were delivered by:

  • Vesna Vipotnik, MSc Pharm., Assistant Minister for Pharmacy at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, on medical waste, occupational health protection, legislation and further steps in handling procedures;
  • Džejna Milaković Ramadani, MSc Pharm., Head of the Chemicals Department at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, on chemicals in the workplace, safe work and legislation;
  • Goran Šobot, BSc Mechanical Engineer, Head of the Education Department at the Public Scientific Institution Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, on hazardous chemicals and occupational safety and fire protection measures;
  • Ljubiša Milićević, BSc Mechanical Engineer – Occupational Safety, Expert Associate at the Public Scientific Institution Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, on the workplace risk assessment act related to working with chemicals.

The seminar was implemented through expert lectures, presentations, analysis of practical examples and discussion between participants and lecturers. Special attention was devoted to practical dilemmas encountered by professionals in their daily work, as well as to the exchange of experience in the application of current laws and bylaws.

Based on the approval of the Ministry of Labour, War Veterans and Disabled Persons’ Protection of the Government of the Republic of Srpska, each seminar participant received 4 hours of professional training, and appropriate certificates of participation were issued to the attendees.

The Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska will continue to organise professional trainings and seminars in the field of occupational safety and health, with the aim of strengthening professional capacities, improving preventive action and raising the level of workplace safety.
