NEW PROJECT IN THE FIELD OF FIRE PROTECTION BEGINS
The Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska continues its active participation in initiatives aimed at improving fire protection and risk management in natural areas. From December 2 to 4, 2024, official contracts were signed in Skopje for projects focused on strengthening local community capacities in fire prevention and management within the Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) program.
Among the approved projects is “FireSafe Jezero: Comprehensive Landscape Fire Prevention and Education Initiative”, with the Municipality of Jezero as the Lead Applicant and the Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska as the Co-Applicant. This project is the result of dedicated collaboration and aims to:
- Implement comprehensive fire prevention measures,
- Strengthen community and landscape resilience to wildfires,
- Educate stakeholders on the importance of sustainable landscape management.
The contract signing ceremony in Skopje was attended by:
- Snežana Ružičić, Mayor of the Municipality of Jezero,
- Nikolina Savić and Ilijana Pavlović, representatives of the Municipality of Jezero,
- Aleksandar Babić, representative of the Institute, Coordinator, and Key Fire Safety Specialist.
ABOUT THE “FIRESAFE JEZERO” PROJECT
The project's goal is to enhance fire protection and preparedness in the Municipality of Jezero and surrounding areas through the implementation of preventive measures, awareness-raising, and education for different population groups. The project is expected to deliver concrete results, including:
- Improved safety and readiness for wildfire response,
- Increased environmental awareness among children and youth in rural areas,
- Standardized fire protection documentation,
- Higher levels of visitor awareness about wildfire risks and prevention methods.
FUNDING AND PARTNERSHIPS
The FireSafe Jezero project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and coordinated by Farmahem from Skopje within the broader regional program Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB).
The Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska will provide expert support in all aspects of fire protection, development of relevant documentation, and education of key stakeholders in the local community.
