OPEN INNOVATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CONFERENCE HELD WITHIN THE SuDe2Re PROJECT
On December 6, 2024, the "Open Innovation and Community Engagement: Opportunities and Challenges" conference was held at Union – Nikola Tesla University in Belgrade as part of the SuDe2Re – Sustainable Development through Responsible Research: Strengthening ORRI in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina project.

Among the speakers were Prof. Dr. Suzana Gotovac Atlagić from the University of Banja Luka, Dr. Predrag Ilić, scientific advisor and director of the Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, who is also a project partner, Dr. Ljiljana Nikolić Bujanović, and Dr. Sanja Mrazovac Kurilić from Union – Nikola Tesla University. A significant contribution to the conference was also made by students from the Faculty of Architecture at Union – Nikola Tesla University, under the mentorship of Dr. Darinka Golubović-Matić.
The conference was attended by representatives of the Stari Grad Municipality – Belgrade, who supported discussions on the role of open research and innovation in strengthening cooperation between academia and society.
Through the presented papers, the audience was introduced to the core objectives of the SuDe2Re project, the fundamentals of Open and Responsible Research and Innovation (ORRI) principles, the importance of promoting and engaging young people in research, the current application of ORRI practices in partner institutions, as well as the state of open science globally and in the region.
A special segment of the conference featured a poster session showcasing more than 30 research posters, presenting both realized projects and future implementation-ready ideas that aim to strengthen ORRI practices in the fields of environmental protection and urban planning.
The SuDe2Re project is funded by the European Union under the REINFORCING program, with the primary goal of building institutional capacities for the implementation of Open and Responsible Research and Innovation (ORRI) practices in environmental protection.
The Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska will continue its active participation in the project, further enhancing cooperation between the scientific community and the public
