THE FIRST WORKSHOP OF THE ALLERSHIELD PROJECT: CHILDREN EXPLORED POLLEN AND ITS IMPACT ON HEALTH
The first children's workshop within the AllerShield project was successfully held for students from Branko Ćopić Primary School in Banja Luka! The young participants had the opportunity to learn about pollen—how it is formed, why it is important for nature, and how it can affect health. Through engaging presentations and discussions, they learned which plants produce pollen and how its concentration changes depending on the seasons.
The practical part of the workshop was particularly exciting. The children observed pollen grains under a microscope through experiments and analyzed their findings. Additionally, through creative activities, they drew their own interpretations of pollen and shared the knowledge they gained during the workshop.
A special highlight of the workshop was the visit to the laboratories of the Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, where the children had the opportunity to see how water, soil, and waste are analyzed, as well as how air samples containing bacteria and fungi are examined.
This workshop is just the beginning of a series of educational activities aimed at raising awareness about allergies and the importance of monitoring pollen in the air. The curious and smiling children showed that learning can be fun and interactive!
The workshop was organized within the AllerShield project, funded by Interreg IPA Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Montenegro.
The project is jointly implemented by the Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, Banja Luka, the Institute of Public Health Zadar, and the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro.
