THE SECOND WORKSHOP OF THE ALLERSHIELD PROJECT: CHILDREN FROM ZMAJ JOVA JOVANOVIĆ PRIMARY SCHOOL EXPLORED THE WORLD OF POLLEN

As part of the AllerShield project, the second educational workshop was successfully held for students from Zmaj Jova Jovanović Primary School in Banja Luka, focusing on pollen exploration. Young participants had the opportunity to learn, through interactive and engaging activities, how pollen is formed, why it is important for nature, and how it can affect human health.

During the workshop, students discovered which plants produce pollen and how its concentration in the air changes with the seasons. Through insightful discussions and educational content, they gained a deeper understanding of allergic reactions caused by pollen.

The most exciting part of the workshop was the scientific experiments. Using microscopes, the children observed pollen grains, analyzed their shapes and structures, and, through creative activities, drew their own interpretations of pollen and what they had learned.

A special segment of the workshop included a visit to the laboratories of the Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, where students observed how water, soil, and waste samples are analyzed, as well as how air is tested for the presence of bacteria and fungi.

This workshop is part of the ongoing educational activities within the AllerShield project, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of pollen monitoring in the air and the impact of allergies on health. Through curiosity and smiles, the children demonstrated that science can be both educational and fun!

The AllerShield project is funded through the Interreg IPA HR-BA-ME program and is jointly implemented by the Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, the Institute of Public Health Zadar, and the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro.
