THE THIRD WORKSHOP OF THE ALLERSHIELD PROJECT: STUDENTS FROM BRANKO ĆOPIĆ PRIMARY SCHOOL EXPLORED THE WORLD OF POLLEN
As part of the AllerShield project, the third educational workshop was held for students from Branko Ćopić Primary School in Banja Luka, focusing on the exploration of pollen and its impact on the environment and human health. A new group of students had the opportunity to learn in an engaging and interactive way how pollen is formed, why it is essential for nature, and how it can affect human health.
During the workshop, students discovered which plants produce pollen, how its concentration in the air changes with the seasons, and why some people develop allergic reactions to pollen. Through dynamic discussions and creative activities, they gained new knowledge about the importance of pollen monitoring in the air.
A particularly exciting part of the workshop was the scientific experiments. Using microscopes, students observed the structure of pollen grains and analyzed their various shapes. Through creative workshops, they illustrated their own interpretations of pollen and presented what they had learned.
One of the most interesting moments of the workshop was a visit to the laboratories of the Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, where students observed how water, soil, and waste samples are analyzed, as well as how air is tested for the presence of bacteria and fungi.
This workshop is part of the ongoing educational activities within the AllerShield project, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of pollen monitoring in the air and the impact of allergies on health. Excited about new knowledge and discoveries, the students showed that science can be both fun and useful!
The AllerShield project is funded through the Interreg IPA HR-BA-ME program and is jointly implemented by the Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, the Institute of Public Health Zadar, and the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro.
