VISIT TO THE COMPANY COLORIT WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE BRIDGEWAT PROJECT AND iMERMAID INITIATIVE
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, within the activities of the BRIDGEWAT project (BRIDGing Communities for SustainablE WATers), implemented as part of the European initiative iMERMAID (Innovative solutions for Mediterranean Ecosystem Remediation via Monitoring and decontamination from Chemical Pollution), representatives of the BRIDGEWAT project and the iMERMAID initiative visited the company Colorit in Banja Luka.
This field meeting was focused on the exchange of experiences and the demonstration of modern technological solutions for chemical water pollution monitoring under real industrial conditions. The BRIDGEWAT/iMERMAID project team had the opportunity to tour the wastewater treatment plant within the factory premises, with professional explanations provided by the hosts.
During the visit, a practical demonstration of the electrochemical sensor for heavy metals was carried out, developed as part of the iMERMAID technology package. The technology is intended for real-time water monitoring and represents an extremely efficient solution for industrial and municipal treatment systems.
This portable system is equipped with an electrochemical sensor that enables the detection of heavy metals such as zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and copper (Cu), using the stripping voltammetry method.
The sensor is adapted for real-time monitoring in industrial and municipal wastewater, allowing for a rapid response to the presence of hazardous substances.
During the visit, a demonstration of the sensor’s operation was organized, showcasing its practical capabilities in a real-world environment.
This event confirms the importance of cooperation between the scientific community, European research projects, and economic entities in advancing the protection of water resources and the responsible management of chemical risks in the environment.
The Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska, as the coordinator of BRIDGEWAT project activities in our country, extends sincere gratitude to the company Colorit for their exceptional hospitality, transparency, and readiness to participate in the presentation of innovative tools that contribute to better environmental protection. Such visits represent a key step in the application of scientific solutions in practice.
