INSTITUTE REPRESENTATIVES PARTICIPATE IN WORKSHOP IN HUNGARY: A GOOD PRACTICE EXAMPLE IN RIVER REVITALIZATION

At Széchenyi István University in Győr, on September 2, 2025, an interactive workshop was held with participants from Portugal, Israel, Hungary, and our Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska. Our team was represented in person by Dr. Srđan Šabić, while colleagues Sanja Bajić and Vesna Mitrić joined online.

The guests had the opportunity to visit the Danube side channel in Szigetköz (Hungary), one of the best examples of how nature-based solutions can bring life back to a river and its ecosystem.

This revitalization, carried out through the DALIA project and the DPS-1 guidelines, demonstrates that nature, science, and communities can work together to create healthier rivers.

Our WATER-GUIDE project aims to develop guidelines for the revitalization of the Sava River through the application of nature-based solutions, with active involvement of local communities and by drawing on successful examples such as Szigetköz.

Rivers are not just waterways – they are our life resource, protection against floods, a pillar of agriculture and tourism, and part of our natural heritage. That is why we believe that WATER-GUIDE will become an inspiration for other rivers in the region.
