Акроним пројекта: WATER-GUIDE
Ознака: 101094070-DALIA
Програм: Danube Region Water Lighthouse Action (DALIA) Project
Специфични циљ: The primary objective of this WATER-GUIDE project is to develop and implement a comprehensive set of guidelines for the revitalisation of water bodies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, specifically focusing on the Sava River as the target water body in our region. The WATER-GUIDE project aligns closely with the DALIA Open Call goal of promoting the sustainable revitalisation and improve the knowledge to restore water ecosystems in the Danube river basin by replicating the non-physical replication model successfully applied in Szigetköz, Hungary. The innovative aspect of our proposal lies in the integration of stakeholder engagement, open design approaches, and the adaptation of international best practices to local/regional conditions.

The WATER-GUIDE project aims to contribute to the sustainable revitalisation of water bodies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a particular focus on the Sava River Basin, through the development and implementation of comprehensive guidelines based on international best practices and adapted to local and regional conditions. The project builds on a non-physical replication model successfully applied in the Szigetköz region in Hungary, which has been recognised as a good example of an integrated and participatory approach to the restoration of water ecosystems.
WATER-GUIDE is aligned with the objectives of the DALIA Open Call programme, which promotes the sustainable revitalisation of water ecosystems in the Danube River Basin, as well as the enhancement of knowledge and capacities for their long-term protection and restoration. The project combines a scientific approach, nature-based solutions, open design principles, and the active involvement of stakeholders throughout all phases of planning and solution development.
A key element of the project is the development of guidelines for the revitalisation of water bodies, covering ecological, hydrological, and socio-economic aspects, with the aim of establishing a balance between nature conservation and human activities. Particular attention will be given to identifying ecological pressures, preserving and enhancing biodiversity, and strengthening the resilience of water ecosystems to climate-related and anthropogenic impacts.
The project envisages the active involvement of local and regional communities, institutions, environmental organisations, the scientific community, and the private sector through workshops, consultations, and public events. This participatory approach enables the consideration of diverse interests, the identification of potential conflicts, and the development of compromise-based and sustainable solutions acceptable to all relevant stakeholders.
In addition, the WATER-GUIDE project includes a strong educational and promotional component aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of water body revitalisation and the conservation of water ecosystems. Through targeted campaigns, educational materials, and public activities, the project will contribute to a better understanding of the role of rivers and water bodies in environmental protection, quality of life, and the sustainable development of the region.
Finally, the results of the WATER-GUIDE project will be designed to be applicable and replicable in other river basins in the region and beyond, thereby contributing to broader European efforts in the restoration and protection of water ecosystems.
